A Practical Statistical Method to Differentiate Inflow and Infiltration in Sanitary Sewer Systems

چکیده

Besides collecting legitimate wastewater, municipal sanitary sewer systems, even when separated from storm also receive unwanted inflow and infiltration (I/I) that adversely impact their sizing, economics, operation. Although several statistical models have been proposed to quantify I/I, advanced methods intricate data requirements may be unrealistic for practitioners who need investigate I/I individual systems. Here, a practical regression model of daily flow is developed with discrete terms (based on winter water use), groundwater sinusoidal seasonality), direct same-day precipitation), delayed multiday moving-average precipitation). The are intuitive the performs well observations case study. can help separate other wastewater flows, customize measures control improve system performance.

Modelling Impact of Extreme Rainfall on Sanitary Sewer System by Predicting Rainfall Derived Infiltration/Inflow

Extreme climate events are becoming more intense in Melbourne in recent years. This increasing intensity of excessive rainfall has an adverse effect on the sewer network by causing sewage overflow hazards. Extreme rainfall events increase flow into the sewer system, both directly (inflow) and through infiltration into sewer. As a result of this Rainfall Derived Infiltration and Inflow (RDII), S...

Evaluation of sewer infiltration/inflow using COD mass flux method: case study in Prague.

The combined sewer system of the City of Prague, similar to other relevant locations, is strongly affected by infiltrating waters. The knowledge of their volume is one of the important parameters with respect to sewer system operation, maintenance and reconstruction. The methodology is based on the variation of diurnal chemical oxygen demand (COD) load and continuous water quality monitoring us...

Infiltration in sewer systems: comparison of measurement methods.

For 20 years, several methods for the estimation of infiltration have been developed in various countries. These conventional methods are subject to considerable uncertainties due to their underlying assumptions and general principles which are not estimated. Two extended comparative studies of the conventional methods have been made in order to assess the variability in infiltration estimation...

Evaluating Subdivisions for Identifying Extraneous Flow in Separate Sanitary Sewer Systems

Separate sanitary sewer systems are designed to convey sewage waste from municipal areas to a central treatment facility; they are not designed to handle water associated with precipitation events. However, intercept of groundwater (infiltration) and of flows through manholes or unauthorized connections (inflows) introduces rainwater into the sanitary sewer system. Infiltration/Inflow (I/I) inc...
